Orphan Grain Train Christian Medical Endeavor
Prayerletter
Volume 5 Number 1 - Final Issue
April 30, 2007
Good morning and bless your day.
We just finished our quarterly International Board Meeting at Orphan Grain Train in Norfolk and continued to be amazed with the work God is doing through this organization nationally and overseas! The number of shipments and man-hours invested in the recovery in Louisiana and Mississippi is staggering! Virtually everyone in the area now knows of OGT.
On the international and emergency response side, OGT has been working in conjunction with LCMS World Relief and World Mission to develop medical clinics that may be placed off a semi. These are in 40’x8’x8’ containers. The first went to the Louisiana area at Camp Restore to fill an emergent need. The second will be in Sudan, serving many refugees who are returning to this area and will not have medical care available to them. The staff will be nationals, identified by members of the Lutheran church there.
This has been a difficult year, emotionally and physically for me. Without my faith, it would be intolerable but God is good and provides what we need, even when we do not know what that might be. With some consternation and after much prayer and discussion with the OGT team and my lovely wife Sandee, we have decided that Christian Medical Endeavor shall become a thing of the past.
I have not been to travel overseas since this last physical malady, although it appears to be healed and no recurrence has occurred. Because of the possibility that the necrotizing cellulitis would recur, we feel it unsafe to go into less than adequate medical care providing territories. Without that ability, I cannot do the work I have done and wish to see done to promote medical missions though LCMS.
I do plan to continue in an advisory role with Orphan Grain Train, and will continue to work with Doug Trampe and Carl Bendixen in the warehouse whenever needed. We have a wonderful group that weekly packs medical goods for shipment that Carl prescreens so we do not ship unusable goods but have good supplies and equipment to send where needed. Dr Hank Handke is up on what is being done in OGT to help continue this work.
If you have been a financial supporter, thank you for using your gifts to further His kingdom. Now, please continue to support OGT with your gifts and assistance as shipping the medical equipment continues and is not free.
However, donations should not be to Christian Medical Endeavor or my ministry any more.
I am heartily thankful for any and all support, which has enabled me to do the work I have done and pray I will be able to continue in part now and more in the future.
In Christ, I stand!
