“Paydown with Paella”
The Orphan Grain Train Phoenix Branch hosted its first fundraiser, Paydown with Paella, on November 8. The event was held in the Phoenix warehouse with more than 100 people in attendance. Paul Dimech from Paul’s Paella’s came from San Diego, CA to prepare his delicious and artistic paella. He made a “meat-lovers” and a “vegetarian” paella. For dessert the branch served Tarta de Santiago (cake of St. James) to the guests.
Grant Schmidt, Vice President of Operations, Orphan Grain Train was the keynote speaker. A raffle was held for sixteen donated quilts; lovingly made by local church quilting groups. In addition to the quilts, a Phoenix volunteer, handcrafted three wooden crosses.
Monetary donations will go towards the Phoenix warehouse mortgage.
